How To Imprint Leaves on Paper

I assumed everyone knew about this, but recently I met some people who were surprised to see my daughter and I creating art using this method. So I really wanted to show it off to everyone, it's quite simple..

I love using this technique as a way to teach my daughter about both art and nature, its a great learning tool. Try to use lots of different colors for each leaf and choose a variety of foliage.

This can be done with leaves, flowers, petals, stems, feathers, twigs... Endless possibilities!

Just get outside, grab a basket, and start collecting.
Have fun!

Gather your supplies: Paper, foliage, and unwrapped crayons

Place the chosen foliage under a sheet of paper. Right side of the leaf facing up.
Make sure to smooth it out so that it imprints properly.


Use an unwrapped crayon, rub the side of the crayon back and forth forcefully over the paper. Now you can see the imprint of the leaf.

Look at all the different leaves you can use, each is unique and beautiful.

Wow! This store is amazing! I was just randomly searching through Etsy for a gift idea and got so lucky as to stumble upon this shop!

I'm not sure what to say, I'm just stunned. Such fine detail each little piece. And the size, incredible! Some of these pieces are an inch tall and still have just as much detail as the Parthenon ;)

I'm in love with the "hey diddle diddle scene / porcelain sculpture" "This nursery rhyme scene fits perfectly into this repurposed jelly belly tin."

All the pieces are sculpted in porcelein clay and painted with china paint. The background was sculpted with sculpy clay and the landscape was painted with acrylic paint.
The dimensions are only 4 inches long and 2 1/2 inches tall. WOW

If only I had more money... These are just TOO cute!

Hi. My name is Chris (Christine). I mostly use the short version because I am always in a hurry.

I have been keen on creating things for as long as I can remember. What was once a hobby turned into a career when in 1984 I began selling my molded creations at arts and craft fairs. Around 1987 I found my niche in the world of miniatures, first working with bread dough and Fimo clay, and later moving on to porcelain. Since then I have been traveling, selling at home and internationally, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.

During my career in all things miniature I have continuously explored other potential areas of art, always picking up bits of treasure, in hopes of one day opening a shop. Now, with a little help from Etsy, I am ready to make my hopes a reality by creating and selling my mixed media designs on the Internet. Through this new outlet I hope to expand from my porcelain miniatures into a bold new world where I can bring the enormous amount of vivid ideas floating around in my head to reality.

How did you first hear about Etsy? I saw someone on a blog who had an etsy shop and I wanted to check it out.

When did you first start selling on Etsy? I had a shop about a year ago where I sold jewelry, but I closed it to open my current shop. Amanda's Crochet has only been up and running for a few days and I'm hoping it will be a big success!

What made you decide to make what you make? My grandma crocheted for as long as I can remember. I still have a granny square afghan she made for me when I was about 6 years old! When I was 19 I taught myself how to crochet and have been 'hooked' ever since!

Where do you get your passion/motivation? I guess it just comes from a desire inside myself to creat something lasting and beautiful, from my own two hands.

Do you have a day job? I have the oldest day job in the book...housewife! I love being home and taking care of my family and our two pets.

Where do you ivent your items? i.e. do you have an office or do you work in your house?I am lucky that I can carry my job with me just about anywhere I go...waiting at the doctor's office, long trips in the car, at the park on a nice day...but I usually just get comfortable on the couch and start crocheting.

How long does it take you to create a piece? It depends on what I'm working on! A hat can take me as little as 40 minutes, while an afghan can take 40 days!

What is your most popular item in your store? Well all I have put in my store so far are hats, but in the future I would like to start adding afghans too.

Any advice you could give to other new sellers on Etsy? To just put all your love into

what you create because others will see your passion in your craft and they'll admire you for it.

What do you do to promote your shop? Sometimes I will post in the etsy forums or try to make new acquaintances in the etsy chat rooms. I also have a wonderful family who wear my hats and other accessories, so people ask about them and sometimes become new customers.

How do you balance your creative work with home life and family? My family always comes first. I never let my work get in the way of doing what I need to do at home.

Are you trade friendly with fellow Etsians? Yes, if there is something I find in their shop

then I am open to trading.
