Tutorial- Dandelion Puff Barrettes

How To Make Dandelion Puff Barrettes

~Supplies~
Yellow Felt
Hair Clip
Scissors
Thread
Sewing needle
E6000

Cut a 12" by 1" strip of yellow felt.

You can also try longer lengths and/or widths for a larger flower.

Cut thin slits on one side of the strip, from end to end widthwise.

Be careful not to cut to the opposite side!

Stay between the red arrows.

Roll up the entire strip, just like a "Fruit Roll-up"!

It sticks together pretty well because of the fibers.

No worries of it unraveling during this process.

Sew the rolled layers together.

Start from the outside and thread to the center

(as shown).

*Sew from center to the outside and through center again and Repeat.*

Continue stitching over and through the center, then back out and repeat.

Make sure to stitch all the way around.

Give the thread a pull to tighten the layers.
Tie ends off.

Your Dandelion Puff is finished, let's connect it to the barrette and leaf now!

Cut out desired leaf shape, make sure it's large enough to cover the barrette!

If you'd like to embroider leaf veins, do that now.

I like E6000, it has a strong hold and outlasts most glues.

It can be bought at most craft stores.

You can also use hot glue if you don't have E6000 handy.

Line the glue generously around the clip.

Do not glue the middle piece!

Press the clip and leaf together.

Wipe the excess glue from the clip edges.

Leave the center clip piece up while the glue dries.

This will ensure that the pieces don't glue together.

Squish the tied thread ends into the middle and place glue on top.

This will keep the threads hidden between the flower puff and the leaf.

Press the dandelion puff onto the leaf.

Let this dry over night before using.

Make Your Own Pants

Pants Tutorial

I'm making pants for my daughter, so I'm using size 3-6 Months for this tutorial.

This works for any size though, even adults!

Add ruffles and other 'pretties' for girls.

OR

Keep them plain with a hem or add bias tape for boys.

If you'd like instructions on how to add ruffles, please ask!

Choose a pair of well fitting pants

Align the pants with the edge of the paper.

Trace around them onto poster paper, leaving a seam allowance.

I kept .5" seam allowance.

Add about 2" at the top for the waist band.

And add 1" to the length.

Cut out your new pattern and keep this handy for future use.

This will the the left and right leg.

Fold fabric, right sides together.

Place pattern on fold and trace onto your fabric, using washable pencil or fabric marker.

Repeat for other leg.

This is what one leg will look like unfolded.

Make two.

Hem the bottom of the legs, add bias tape, or ruffles right now.

Be creative!

Stack the legs on top of the other, Right sides together.

Make sure you have the legs at the bottom and not the waist.

They look Very similar!

Sew from the waist down to the crotch on both sides.

Do not sew the sides of the legs yet!

Fold the legs together and sew the inseam

(from hem up to crotch and down to opposite hem)

Make sure to finish your edges!

Onto the Waist band!

Fold down half an inch and iron.

This will be sealed inside the waistband, so there is no need to finish the edge.

Fold over again, 1"

Sew all the way around, leaving an open space to insert an elastic band.

Don't forget to leave the opening large enough to insert an elastic band!

Connect a safety pin to the end of the elastic to help you push it through the waist band

Sew the elastic ends to a scrap piece of ribbon or fabric.
Zigzag back and forth a couple of times.
This takes away from the small bulge you get when the elastic ends are sewn together.
Sew the waist band closed.

And embellish!
I added small bows, buttons, and rhinestones at the bottom of each leg.
